Clinical operations
We perform major operations such as artificial hip or knee replacement, corrective operations on the mechanical axis or major bone surgery in Berlin clinics. |

Artificial knee replacement
Total knee replacementAs the largest joint in the human body, the knee is subject to a high amount of strain. Not only is it extremely prone to injury but also varyingly disposed to arthritic changes. For arthritis of the knee, however, the total condylar knee replacement is a method that facilitates both short regeneration periods and bilateral operations. |
It involves removal of the worn or damaged joint surfaces and shaping the implantation to fit exactly between the thigh and shin bones. If the arthritis is in both knees it is also possible to operate them at the same time. Regeneration time is then only slightly longer than it would be for single knee replacement. This facilitates a patient’s rapid reintegration into normal life patterns and allows an early return to work. |
Artificial hip replacement
Total hip joint surgeryMost current procedures for treating premature hip damage only serve to postpone, at the most, the only really effective treatment: implantation of an artificial hip joint. An operation to the hip is still not a routine measure, making it doubly important that unwanted side effects are kept to a minimum. Fact is, that the operation involves not only the joint itself, but also the surrounding tissue. |
This means, the operative incision to the hip joint is of major importance. In the sense of a more gentle procedure, a special lateral approach is made. This avoids any unnecessary separation of muscles and tendons from bone. Compared to the extensively used posterior approach this is by far the more benign method. It means that the muscular system is hardly affected by the operation, the rehabilitation period is shorter and complications such as ossification around the implanted joint are avoided. |
